Dear All,

This go fund me account has been set up for baby Ramla who has been diagnosed with a large occipital encephalocele and we hope this fundraiser to give Ramla the best life possible and support her parents during an extremely challenging time. Ramla is the first child of two young couple who have just started their life together and this has been very overwhelming both emotionally and physically for them.

Baby Ramla was born June 2022 with a very rare birth defect called an encephalocele. 2/3rds of her brain stem was located inside of a spinal-fluid-filled sac on the back of her head. Unfortunately this was not detected during pregnancy due to the lack of healthcare access in Somalia.

She needs to have an urgent surgery for it to be corrected before her brain develops further. Ramla lives in Mogadishu, Somalia and hospitals in Somalia are unable to perform the surgery due to complications and the expertise required. Since Ramla’s birth the family have been trying to seek medical help. Finally the family managed to find is a Paediatric Neurological Hospital in Italy (Santobono-Pausilipon Children's Hospital) that offered to perform the surgery urgently but the cost of medical expenses are unimaginable. The surgery is estimated to cost $46,000, a charity organisation has offered to pay half of this money $23,000 but unfortunately her parents will not be able to pay the rest to fund the surgery. Ramla’s father has a vision impairment and can hardly provide basic needs for the family let alone pay for medical expenses.
