Most of the staff at Bad Dog Sarnia just call her "Sawsy." She's the heart and soul of the kitchen, always working her tail off, long hours, just trying to make a good life. Her biggest dream has been to bring her kids, who currently live with her mom in Mexico, here to Sarnia. She wants to give them a better shot, a safer, more stable life. Every extra shift, every penny saved, it's all been for them.

Then, just when she was finally getting close to making that dream a reality, her whole world exploded. Her sweet, vibrant 8-year-old, Emily, got a diagnosis that would make anyone's stomach drop: cancer in her eye, brain, and sinus cavity. It has since traveled into her bones and her lungs.

Sawsan didn't hesitate for a second. She dropped everything here in Sarnia and left Ontario to be by Emily's side. Sawsan is now navigating this terrifying new reality far from her friends and the community she's built here, with limited financial resources and a halt in her income.

Emily's got a huge fight ahead of her. The treatments are grueling, and it's going to be a very uncertain road.

Medical bills are piling up, travel costs to be with Emily are constant, and all the regular bills back home don't stop. Sawsan was already just getting by, working hard every single day. Now, with Emily's diagnosis, she's in a desperate situation.
