Hi! My name is Mickayla Volker and my Dad is Jeffery Carr. As many of you know he is currently between jobs and had to have an emergency back surgery using rods to stabilize and support his L2-L8 vertebrae. What was thought to be just a sore back turned out to be much more serious after returning home from an interview in another state. My Dad called my Mom, Brenda Carr, and told her there was something wrong with his legs and he was having trouble with mobility and sensation. He let her know it would take him longer to get to the car than normal. Mom made the quick call that they were going to the ER and didn't give Dad the choice. Its a good thing she did! They arrived at the hospital in Fort Mill, SC and waited 4 hours for a room to get some diagnostics done. They had a CT scan done and things started to move very quickly. The hospital staff decided this was now an emergency and they needed both a neurosurgeon and an emergency MRI with contrast. Come to find out his spinal cord was being compressed and if anything shifted, he would become paralyzed. Luckily, the next parts moved quickly, and the ambulance transferred Dad to Piedmont Rock Hill, SC where the MRI and soon after, surgery took place. Recovery has not been the easiest road as you can imagine, after 5 Days of rough nights in the hospital we were finally on the way home. What we thought was going to be easier at home has not been the case entirely... Dad has been in a lot of pain. It seems like today 9/06/2023, that this is being better managed, and he can get up and move VERY little. With all this said about what has happened, the medical bills have added up and our family would sincerely appreciate anything that could be contributed to making this recovery a bit less stressful financially. After the insurance deductibles, surgeon, hospital stay, ambulance ride, food, and to top it off all the medical supplies they have needed at home, it has quickly added up. I know many have asked if they could bring meals and we sincerely appreciate the offer, unfortunately Mom and Dad have a very limited diet due to extreme allergies of certain foods and limited ingredient diets due to health concerns which makes it hard to accept prepared foods. If any of you would be willing to make a meal I will be the one to ask that the cost of ingredients would be donated instead if possible so they can make meals to their specific diet. Anyone that knows my Mom and Dad knows that they tend to make things work and only ask if they truly needed it, Thank you everyone for how much you all care for our family!
