Medical Cost for a Journey to Sobriety

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Brenda Ewing and I have a VERY dear family member on their way to treatment. I have been waiting patiently for this day and I have suddenly become a praying woman. I am keeping this persons identity confidential until I have permission otherwise. Funds received by this donation page will go directly to medical costs for alcohol treatment, after insurance/based on estimated received by two WA facilities in network with Regence. Excess funds will go toward recovery and rehabilitation expenses such as a deposit on an apartment.

My family member, who I will refer here to as “JR” or “they/them”, has been in need of alcohol detox/rehab for several years. The problem likely started when they were 17 but it was manageable until recent. They were/are the sole provider to their now 12 yr old son for the last 10 yrs and something triggered JR to go into a very dark depression. They were the person who never missed a day of school or work; and now hasn’t worked for over a month due to depression (alcohol). JR’s parents divorced when they were 11 and then JR lost their father shortly after and has admitted recently they haven’t talked to anyone since this day about their fathers passing

I have spent the last week working with 28 day inpatient rehab facilities and the insurance and JR will owe approximately $6300 if we can get them to go to an in-network rehab facility such as Sundown Ranch in Yakima WA or Northpoint in Edmonds WA.

I have been prepared to fly to them then drive them to rehab and pay for a chunk of the end cost as I don’t want the cost to deter the help they need. The help is beyond alcohol dependence and much deeper, on a mental health level.

I was originally told one place was covered at 100% after a $2000 deductible and after receiving conflicting information from another facility I confirmed with JR’s work place that indeed there is a $2000 deductible that must be paid first, then the insurance will cover 70% of the cost and once JR’s cost has equaled $6300 or more, the plan pays 100%.
all the facilities cost over $20,000 so the minimum and maximum bill JR will have is $6300. Most facilities are asking for estimated payment up front or a payment plan.

I will close this GFM if donations exceed a certain amount but if it exceeds by a small amount I will ensure the funds go toward positive items such as gas money toward to get to work, deposit toward an apartment.

Side note: JR has worked for their employer for 10+ years with very few absences. Because of this they are holding JR’s job and covering the insurance through 8/31!

Thank you in advance for helping someone who is ready to give up.
