Medical Boards, essentials and coffee

Once upon a time a little girl dreamed of becoming a medical doctor in order to help care for others. At an early age her curiosity, passion (and calling) for medicine became clear. When going to play in the fields at the migrant camp in Davis, she would bring a paper bag with toilet paper, band-aids and the “brown bottle that didn’t burn” in order to care for others. Using her resources, she tried to ensure playtime could last as long as possible.

As she grew older, her curiosity for medicine and health also grew. She wanted to be able to understand medical conditions and treatments in order to help her community; in their language. Clarifying myths while respecting cultural differences and traditions. The roadmap to medical school that she drew in High School (as an assignment) turned out not to be as “straight of a path” as the one she envisioned.

In spite of many obstacles (academic and socioeconomic) she became part of the first generation to go to college and is now the first medical doctor on both sides of her family. Like they say “the struggle is real!” I’ll let you read more about it upon publishing my book.

Yes, this little girl is me! I am beyond grateful for my journey as it has equipped me with survival, leadership and communicational skills (proficient in 3 languages) that I simply could not have learned just through books. In advocating for others, I’ve learned to advocate for myself. There is a LOT of good to be done! I will continue to do my best to create and fuel positive change for our community.

At this point in my career- I humbly ask for your financial support. I have applied and searched for scholarships but unfortunately do not qualify, as my medical school is abroad (not a US school); although US accredited. It has been one of the most intense, unexpected and expensive years of my life! For those of you who have been there every step of the way (familia, friends and mentors)- THANK YOU!

My goal of fundraising $13.5K (yikes, it’s a lot!) is to help pay for medical boards needs (testing, study materials and exam registrations). While helping me pay for some essentials (like food, bills, gas, coffee) for the next 5 months. Every cent will be used with great care! You have my word! I also appreciate your positive vibes, positive energy and prayers! Taking it in ‘phases’ and hopeful to see the fruit of my sacrifices, effort and resiliency pay off soon! Almost, almost there. I have faith, this too shall pass:)

In advance, thank you for reading, your help and support. It takes “a village.” Thank you for allowing me to be one step closer to practicing medicine in my country as a multilingual, multicultural Pediatritian for my community in need.

With deep respect,
