medical bills/treatment expenses

Kailyn is a beautiful and sweet 5 year old girl who was diagnosed with an ependymoma brain tumor on August 23rd 2013.  Her journey began approximately 9 days prior to her diagnosis when she began vomiting.  She was initially diagnosed with reflux and treated with medication, but her symptoms were persistant and did not resolve.  On August 23rd, after many days of vomiting, her parents brought her to the emergency room.  After a quick "precautionary" scan of her head, Kailyn's parents heard the words that would change their lives forever....  Kailyn had a brain tumor.  She was immediately transfered to Boston Children's Hospital and within days she was taken to the OR for intricate neurosurgery to remove the tumor. Since the start of her fight, Kailyn has experienced numerous set backs.  From post-operative infection and complications to re-growth of her tumor which required a second complicated brain surgery, her family has always been by her side. 

On November 18th 2013, she began a 7 week course of proton radiation.  This is a very special type of radiation that required her to be asleep for 1 hour during the procedure 5 days a week.  As you can imagine this can be physically demanding and really scary, especially for a 5 year old!  But Kailyn was brave and never complained.  Throughout all of these extremely hard days, she has had the love and support of her family to give big hugs, smiles and much needed encouragement.  Her mom Alison had to make the difficult choice to take an unpaid leave from work to be with Kailyn during her treatment.
