Hi, we are Pete and Wendy Dewey, the mother and father of Leah Dewey. On December 16th, 2023 our 13 year old daughter Leah was involved in a four wheeler accident, she flew off of the four wheeler and slammed her head on the street pavement. She fractured her skull in multiple places and her brain began to swell, she also had multiple brain bleeds and had developed air bubbles on her brain. She also broke a bone in her left ear that will require surgery to remove the floating pieces inside of her ear,we are still unsure if she will be able to properly hear out of her ear again. She was transported to Children's Hospital in New Orleans, La. There she had to have emergency brain surgery to remove 22x17cm of her skull to stop the bleeding in her brain and relieve pressure and swelling. She also had to have a blood transfusion during the surgery. She's had 5 catscans and 1 MRI so far. She spent 5 days in the PICU then 4 more days in a regular room. She had to relearn how to walk properly so we have to do PT, OT and Speech therapy. Once the swelling in her brain goes down she has to have another brain surgery to replace her skull. They allowed us to come home with a helmet on Christmas day but We have many more trips back and forth to New Orleans for upcoming appointments, surgeries and therapies. It's been a lot to deal with but I have faith that we are on the right road to recovery. If you feel it in your heart to help us along Leah's journey in any way, we greatly appreciate it. Even if you just share her story and pray ,we are thankful. I also have Venmo and Cash app for those that prefer it that way,
Thankyou to everyone that has already prayed and continues to do so. One day at a time
