Hi my name is Kim Zembruski. I’m Dave’s wife of almost 33 years. Dave started not feeling well at the end of February and went to see his primary care doctor on April 1. Told dr all his symptoms and he was examined and just said to take Metamucil to help with stomach issues. By April 14th Dave couldn’t take the pain any more and we went to st Joseph’s hospital in Joliet. Early April 15th Dave went and had a scope done down his throat. The dr came out and told me he had stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The tumor on the head of the pancreas had metastasized to the liver with 5 lesions in the liver. After 4 days in the hospital he was released. We decided to leave Joliet and we’re blessed and grateful that Dave had a appointment immediately with a dr at the cardinal Bernardin cancer center at Loyola university in maywood. He immediately had all records transferred and started chemo treatment within a week. The chemo was more than not kind to Dave. He was very sick. Had treatments once a week for 3 weeks and off a week. . 4 hours once a week taking home a pump of chemo for 48 hours then to travel back to have it removed. He ended up having bile duct surgery placing a stent in the duct to keep it open. Back to chemo to find out his blood count was very very low and collapsed at home to have to be rushed to the hospital to receive 2 pints of blood. Back to chemo. Again going once a week and coming home with chemo pump back up 48 hours later. Doing blood work. Dr decided to change his chemo so he would go once every week for three weeks off a week. While doing that he needed 2 more pints of blood. Now he is on the original chemo but at a lower dose and eliminating the chemo that gave him all the side effects. He’s gone the last two weeks. This is not a curable cancer and doesn’t have a long survival rate. We take each day with a blessing. Dave has lost a lot of weight so far during our journey. The medical bills and prescriptions are over the top and gas alone going back and forth to Loyola is expensive.
