Working for Southern Fireplace Distributors since 1984, Buck has spent the last 35 years installing and servicing fireplaces for us that create the cozy ambiance that make a house a home. He has recently been diagnosed with a debilitating disease called Multiple Myeloma Lampda Light Chain, a rare form of Multiple Myeloma that has no cure, but with prayers behind him and luck on his side may go into remission.    After being admitted to the hospital and staying for nearly a week because of intense back pain, X-rays and an MRI led to bone marrow biopsy which resulted in the diagnosis. Multiple Myeloma is a type of blood cancer in which abnormal, clonal plasma cells proliferate and accumulate in the bone marrow. Myeloma cells disrupt normal bone marrow function and invade the surrounding bone causing bone destruction. Known as “bone mothing”, the cancer eats away at the bones in the body, just as a moth might create holes in a sweater, not only causing severe pain but also debilitating weakness throughout the body. Once an avid outdoorsman, Buck is now unable to stand for more than fifteen minutes, cannot leave the house without an assistive walker or cane, and has not been able to work since March 7th, nor will he be able to in the foreseeable future. With his wife Jodi by his side, Buck has undergone radiation to reduce the size of the three tumors on his spine and the numerous lesions throughout his body. He is also undergoing chemotherapy and receiving infusions to help strengthen his bones. But with every appointment, procedure, trip to the hospital, medications and treatment comes a cost. With these costs quickly adding up they are in fear of losing their home. They have already sold their motorcycle, toy hauler and boat to help pay the exorbitant costs and to cut back on expenses. With the new year here the cost of deductibles will fall on them again. This will be something they will endure each and every year that he battles this unforgiving cancer.
