I recently went on vacation using a voucher from 2020 for Royal Caribbean. I got a new pair of water shoes for the pool from Walmart and use them either the first or second day and caused a little abrasion on the top of my foot, nothing spectacular nothing to write home to Mom about. Couple days later we were at Royal Caribbean's Private Island and I got in the water for about 6 or 7 minutes and got stuck in the muck and mud and actually had to be helped to the shoreline. Over the next couple days my foot swelled up a little bit but I thought it was from a previous situation and I wasn't too worried. On the last sea day I was feeling pretty crummy and went to medical and there was a small spot of black on the top of my foot about the size of an almond. It was gangrene. A very rare bacteria from ocean water had gotten into my foot and to my bloodstream. The gangreen developed so fast that that morning there wasn't anything there. I received antibiotics from the medical staff that afternoon evening and also more antibiotics the next morning of departure. I drove back to Baltimore and directly went and to Bayview medical center. When they looked at my foot the black spot had more than doubled in size. And it was definitely gangrene. They did a CT scan and I actually went into the OR and they had to amputate part of my foot and my pinky toe. That was on the 29th of May. They said if I had waited one day I would of died from Sepsis. Since then then they have had to amputate my fourth toe and more of my foot. They've debrided the wound a total of five times now during 5 general anesthesia surgeries. The wound is so large that they can't close it and the only option is for amputation of my foot. They plan on amputating just below my calf muscle but above my ankle that way I'll be able to use a prosthetic.
My medical bills are somewhere North of $20,000. I have not been able to work obviously since I came back. I have nothing saved up and was living paycheck to paycheck. I do have health care that I just purchased that started June 1st which I hope to continue if I can make the monthly premium which is $187. After I leave the hospital I have to go have rehab that's where that medical insurance comes in. On top of that I have rent of my apartment $975, car payment $400, car insurance $200, cell phone $200 and all the other normal bills but again I cannot work until all the rehab is done I learn how to walk again I get a prosthetic and then find a job that will allow me to work with the prosthetic. I've done contract security for the last 20 years and I won't be able to do it anymore. I won't be able to stand for long periods of time won't be able to chase people won't be able to get physical with people if I have to.
If I can't get my housing situation under control I'm looking at going into a homeless shelter. I will have to give up my Shi-tzu (Princess) who got me through my Mom and Dad dying. I really need some help and whatever is donated is going to be so greatly appreciated.
Remember, have fun be safe everyone be kind and gentle to each other do three good deeds a day.
