Medical Bills for the family of Jim Carson
Donation protected
On January 21st, our family lost our amazing, talented, and humble Jim after a hard-fought battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. The disease had progressed slowly at first and then in 2020 started to more rapidly progress and deteriorate his quality of life. Jim LOVED to play the trumpet/bugle and was a very talented musician who played in several Drum & Bugle corps and bands, both as a child and as an adult.
He was a maintenance supervisor and licensed electrician and a jack of all trades, and although he was a perfectionist, he always took the time to teach/coach his co-workers and employees.
Jim never smoked and the cause of the disease is considered idiopathic, with no known cause. On Christmas Day he was admitted to Alexian Brothers ICU in Elk Grove Village, IL, unable to breathe on his own, even with the home oxygen tanks or oxygenator. They thought he had pneumonia as well as fluid around the lungs and heart- a further indication that the IPF was progressing more rapidly. After 10 days in the ICU there, and countless unanswered phone calls to his pulmonologist, he was transferred to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois to be evaluated for a lung transplant. They determined he did not have pneumonia, and we were furious to know that his pulmonologist wasted two precious weeks of Jim's time!!
The normal evaluation process takes 4 weeks, but because of the seriousness of his condition, Loyola Medical (along with Jim's unwavering determination to fight) administered all the tests in just two weeks and approved him for the lung transplant.
Unfortunately, because of the toll his body had taken over the past several months, he was just too weak and his body gave out before the transplant could happen. In total, Jim spent 28 days in ICU care and had countless tests. The medical bills will be staggering and the family will be responsible for paying all of those costs incurred.
We are looking to raise $300,000.
