Medical Bills for Suzanne Laurent
Donation protected
I would like to introduce you to Suzanne Laurent, who I met through my daughter. Suzanne is a 46 year old woman who is married and raising 3 daughters. Their daughters are Gwen age 18 who just started nursing school, Paige, age 17, and Elaine age 12. Suzanne previously was working full time, and was volunteering at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Appleton, WI where she has been a Sunday school teacher for the past year and a member for 18 years.
March of this year, Suzanne was diagnosed with an "intradural, intramedullary spinal cord tumor. Basically, this is a tumor that is within the tissues of the spinal cord itself. During the course of diagnosis for spinal cord cancer, it was discovered that she also has DCIS left breast cancer. In May, Suzanne had the spinal cord tumor removal surgery at Mayo clinic which was successful. She was given a 100% chance of paralysis and thankfully has begun to walk again with assistance only. At this time, Suzanne is not able to return to work full time as her right side is "lazy" or another words paralyzed and she can not feel from the waist down. She is unable to drive and has limited mobility. She is receiving physical therapy and occupational therapy to continue to regain possible function. In November, she will has bilateral mastectomy for her breast cancer along with reconstruction surgery in the following months.
As you can imagine, the medical bills have been large. With only one income, a daughter in college(who is paying for own college) and large family to support their financial need is great. All available money is now used for medical bills, with or no money left over for basic budget needs.
