My name is Eric McMullen and I live in Perrydale, Oregon. I am a single dad, raising my son Nick. Last December Nick talked me into bringing a dog home and 9 month old Sam the black lab became a family member. Sam is now 18 months old and he is a good boy, like all dogs! Sam is our friend and our therapy! I honestly never imagined that I would become so bonded to Sam or that my son would as well.
While Sam has brought the love to our family that only a dog can, he has not been without his challenges! Last spring, Sam was hit by a car near our home which broke both bones in one front leg. Three months of medication and vet visits and $3,000 later, Sam was healthy and running around like new! The first picture of Sam is when he had his cast on.

Fast forward to yesterday...I took Sam with me on a short jaunt, less than a mile, to visit my parents, who also love Sam and were missing him! I tied him in the bed of my truck before we left, however his normal tie was in my son's truck, so I had to improvise. Somehow, Sam managed to pull his head out of his collar and decided it would be a good idea to jump out of my moving truck!
As I type this, Sam is currently sedated at my vet and has a broken femur bone in his back leg. He needs to have surgery to set the bone and have a plate installed. The estimated cost I was given for the surgery is around $5,000, on top of the $1,000 I already paid for the emergency visit and x-rays last night. The $5,000 is only for the surgery and doesn't include future care, medications and etc.

In 50 years, I've never had to ask for financial help, until recently. Unfortunately, life has been a bit challenging personally and financially this past year. I am currently paying legal fees in an effort to gain sole custody of my son and just last week had to replace the transmission in my son's truck. In addition, I am still paying off the $3,000 for his first injury. Nick is selling his motorcycle to help with his truck repairs and I am selling my boat to help cover legal fees.
Today I am humbled and I need help with Sam. No matter what it takes, I will get Sam the care he needs and deserves and find a way to pay. With that said, Nick and I will be eternally grateful for any help you would be kind enough to provide.
If by some chance, donated funds exceed the cost of Sam's, we will donate the remainder to a local animal shelter.
