Medical bills for dog attack on our puppy
Donation protected
If you know me, you know I am not one to ask for help, but you know...2020...
As many of you may already know, our puppy that we adopted for our kids was attacked by 2 Malamute dogs while my daughter was walking her around our neighborhood. Luckily, my daughter was not injured, but unfortunately our 4 month old puppy sustained several significant injuries. 2 severe lacerations, 5 punctures, a fractured right elbow and 2 fractures to the left radius and ulna. The woman, whose dogs attacked ours, made initial payments, but then suddenly stopped payments after the first week and a half; therefore leaving us with substantial veterinary bills with all the ongoing care, biweekly dressing changes, surgeries, medications, etc. Not only have our kids lost out on being able to play with their puppy, we have all undergone tremendous amounts of stress dealing with a newly crippled puppy: forcing a change in lifestyle resulting in having a watchful eye on her 24/7. Loss in job opportunities and losing out on work or time from our personal lives for several hours a week to take her to vet appointments and for dressing changes. After 5 weeks, she developed a pressure sore on her right elbow because her dressings weren't bulky enough around the boney prominices so her movement caused rubbing and opened a sore. I was denied antibiotics upon request at the time. It then developed into a nasty infection and we were provided with more stress when the vet tech asked if I had thought about amputating her right arm, directly in front of my daughter!! I was backed into a wall and forced to utilize the Emergency vet for services (costing us more) because our personal vet felt she was "too complicated" and refused care at this point. I decided to continue doing dressing changes on my own because I couldn't afford the $100+ that the ER vet was charging for each dressing change, which was being done twice a week. Despite their attempts to force me to come to them when I was fully capable of doing dressing changes on my own, the ER vet decided to refuse to give me supplies, when all I asked for was 2 pieces of tape. How frustrating! It has been a long and trecherous 8 week recovery and we finally see the light at the end of the tunnel with her final surgery coming up to remove the pins from her right arm. Sadly though, Rhea will still have more to recover from: regaining muscle, loosening up her stiffened joints from being in hard casts, and not to mention arthritis and chronic pain down the road. Please consider a donation to help mitigate the financial burden we have ensued. We will be extremely appreciative of any help we could get to help pay for these veterinary bills! Every little bit helps, even if all you can do is share this post.
