Help Den Den Survive: From a Coma to the Long Road Home

​The Story:

​A week before Christmas, our lives changed forever. Den Den, a devoted mother and wife, suddenly lost her appetite and her ability to function. Within days, she was slurring her speech and her face began to swell. Then, the unthinkable happened—she slipped into a coma.

​Doctors believe this was caused by a mosquito-borne illness that attacked her system with zero warning.

​For weeks, she has been fighting for her life in a hospital in the Philippines. Her husband has never left her side, but they are facing a battle that love alone cannot win. In the Philippines, healthcare is "pay-front." If you don't have the cash for the next dose of medicine or the next day in the ICU, treatment stops. You have to buy your own food and supplies just to stay in the ward.

​The Miracle and the Reality:

We have just seen the first sign of hope: Den Den has finally opened her eyes. But the road ahead is steep. She is confused, doesn't know where she is, and has lost weeks of her life. She has no money left for the specialized rehab she needs to walk or talk properly again, and her children are at home with no way to pay for their basic needs while their parents are trapped in the hospital.
