On January 12th 2023, we almost lost a valuable and very loved soul. Corporal Fitzsimmons of Richland County received a report that a young man was sitting on the ledge of an overpass, about to jump. Moving quickly and carefully, Fitzsimmons grabbed the young man, and sat with him in the road while family members and friends rushed in to help.

Normally, Daniel (who goes by Javon on social media) can be found spending time with his loved ones and in nature, watching football, and cracking jokes with his father. Daniel enjoys watching the sunset, biking, and boating. If you have the chance to meet him in person, it’s not long before he and his father are personally inviting you over to Thanksgiving dinner. Daniel loves grilling, gardening, taking in movies, and you might run into him at the local farmer’s market. So, it was very alarming when the exhaustion of dealing with a medical condition brought him and others to the literal edge of a realization that we were about to lose him forever.

He’s looking forward to becoming more engaged in the mental health community and opening a dialogue. He’s even considering potentially starting a podcast to connect to others who just need to gather around the table and talk.

Had it not been for a collective family coming together to raise up this young man to let him know how loved he is, we would have missed out on the bright future Daniel holds, and the positive impact he hopes to make on others. When Fitzsimmons said on the bridge to Daniel that this was a “permanent solution to a temporary problem,” we all heard this. We all know someone struggling either silently or out loud. Daniel isn’t just somebody’s son, he’s everyone’s son. He’s everyone’s brother. Daniel is someone we know.

Currently, we’re asking for anyone who has it in their heart to contribute to our fund for medical bills and seeking further neurology help, in addition to personal expenses which have become challenging in this climate.

We fully believe that there are positive solutions to problems, so we also want to pay it forward by putting a portion of the proceeds towards the Epilepsy Foundation.

Any connections or insight into the medical field associated with epilepsy and mental health are also greatly appreciated.

We want to spread awareness to people around the world dealing with mental issues that you are not alone, we are all in this together.
