Hello friends, a few nights ago my sister Lisa got the call every parent dreads: her 22 year old son Flynn is in a hospital in Hanoi, Vietnam, in a critical condition. Information has been coming through his girlfriend who has been bedside for 3 days now. Since that initial call Flynn has been transferred to an ICU in a specialist hospital with a severe acute pancreatitis - a condition that could be life threatening. While we are remaining positive he will recover, the likelihood is his time in ICU will be at the very least days, and could well be weeks while they ensure that sepsis doesn't kick in and the infection spread to other organs - we are told that 30% of his pancreas has already died and his appendix is also now involved.
With the financial support of my Dad, Flynn's Grandad, Lisa is flying to Hanoi as I write this and his sister, Ava, who was already in Malaysia, has arrived and is currently with Flynn.
We are asking for support because Flynn does not have medical insurance that will cover this situation and we have been told that the medical bills are going to be at least £7000. Family is rallying to support, but we are mindful that on top of flights, accommodation and medical bills, Lisa is going to have a potentially long stay in Hanoi, and as a self-employed psychotherapist, her insurance for lost income will only kick in if absent for several months. So, Lisa is going to lose all of her income for what is looking likely to be several weeks in Vietnam.
This is the beauty of crowdfunding: even a small contribution from those who love Lisa and Flynn, when combined will ease the strain on Lisa in this awful situation. And if finances are not what is available to you, prayers of healing for Flynn are equally welcome.
I will post updates as they come in.
Sending sincerest gratitude in advance.
Natasha
