Daxton is an intelligent, kind and hard working individual. She is well loved by her friends and family. Being only 24 this year will be the most difficult time in her whole life. I know that it is in mine as her mother. I typically dislike asking for help, but feel that this may be the only way to pay the bills that are already coming in and she isnt even out of ICU. Right before the COVID-19 pandemic, Daxton (previously named Kelsey) got the H1N1 Swine flu.  Two days into the illness she was taken to urgent care and was told that she didn't have Pneumonia at that time. Two days later, she was awake, hungry and ready to watch some of her favorite TV shows.   After feling better the previous day, it was quite a shock that she had a temperature of  40.18° Celsius (104.3° Fahrenheit.)   She was taken to the Emergency  Room (ER) and by the time she got to triage, her oxygen levels had fallen to 63%.    If a person falls under 85% brain damage starts to occur, so this was really  serious.  She was admitted immediately and place in Intensive  Care (ICU)   By 5:30 the next morning her oxygen level had dropped to less than 20%.  She was intubated (placed on a ventilator with 100% oxygen and tubes into her lungs.) To make a really long story short, 33 days later , after many scares and discussions of end of life  wishes, she was able to get a tracheostomy a get the tubes out of her throat.  She is making exceedingly slow progress to being able to breath on her own. She is nowhere near being healthy enough to come home.  She will take months if not a full year or more to be ready.  She will need to rebuild her muscles that have been basically paralyzed for 38 days.  There will also be speech and breathing therapy and lessons for relearning how  to swallow properly. Bills from the some of the specialists are already coming in and her portion after insurance payments are several thousand dollars.  And that  was just a few specialists, not hospital costs an fees or even any of the procedures.
