On the evening of Mother's Day, May 8, 2022, our beloved Beth—wife, sister, aunt, and mother of two beautiful daughters—suffered an acute stroke on both sides of the brain, resulting in near-complete paralysis and loss of all voluntary function. She was immediately taken to an area hospital and, after a week in ICU, was transferred to the stroke ward where she remains today. Beth is unable to voluntarily swallow, cough, move her limbs, or speak, requires bed turns every 2 hours, and is currently being fed via a PEG tube to her stomach.


These horrific circumstances notwithstanding, Beth's cognition, vision, and hearing are intact and she is a viable candidate for rehabilitation. A former UVA graduate and self-made business person, Beth has a bright mind and a lively, generous personality loved by all. Unfortunately, the intensive rehabilitation she needs is both a) very expensive and b) not covered under her current healthcare provider. As we are not a wealthy family, we are appealing to your kindness and and generosity to help fund the medical expenses she will require over the coming weeks and months.

Specifically, we are seeking necessary funds for a treatment regimen for "coma-level" patients at a top-ranked neuro rehabilitation facility in Houston, TX, USA, as well as for follow-on medical care and expenses for the next several months as Beth will require 24-hour professional nursing until she's regained some basic function.

 

At only 49 years old, Beth's stroke has come as a complete surprise and words can't express the devastation this has brought to our family, and especially, her two daughters, aged 13 and 16. Thank you for your kind consideration as well as your thoughts and prayers.
