Dear Friends,
As many of you are aware, our loving and dear friend Frances Shavers has been battling multiple sclerosis and a rare and painful neurological condition called trigeminal and glossopharyngeal neuralgia. She has undergone 6 brain surgeries and multiple other procedures in an attempt to relieve her of the excruciating pain that this awful disease brings. Anyone who's had the opportunity to spend time with Frances knows that she is a radiant, and energetic person. She is—or was—a person full of life, hope, and optimism, and is someone we have all come to love, appreciate, and admire for these reasons. However, rarely do we get to see this Frances anymore. The disease and the pain she endures daily deplete her of every ounce of energy she has. And, although she tries to approach everyday with hope, she’s often met with disappointment, because the pain wins every time.
Since being diagnosed, you may have witnessed the pain she endures minute, after minute, after minute…it’s paralyzing, debilitating, and demoralizing. Today, she relies on copious amount of medications to get through the daily pain, she sleeps hunched over in a chair, and is unable to do the one thing she loves, exercise.
Frances and her supportive husband, George, have devoted countless hours and resources to her care and have made several trips to medical facilities in the States and Norway in an attempt to relieve her of the pain. Unfortunately, these attempts have provided no long term solution to her condition. Frances remains hopeful that something out there will work. Which is the reason for this GoFundMe effort.
Frances has been approved for a stem cell procedure in Panama which will cost roughly $35,000. She must commit to the procedure by August 1st, which means that we must raise the funds by June 15th in order for her to make all necessary arrangements. We hope this procedure will be the answer to relieving her of this pain and suffering. While Frances and her wonderful husband would never ask for assistance, the expense of Frances' healthcare has become quite overwhelming. We would like to relieve them of the financial burden associated with this treatment.
We've been blessed with Frances' friendship. She has enriched our lives in so many ways and she has given hope at times when we may have been hopeless. Help us give Frances and George hope and the ability to go through another procedure without worry.
Your gift will not only assist with the procedure, travel, and accommodations, but any funds raised above and beyond the $35,000 will go into a health savings account for additional procedures that may be necessary and follow-up care.
