Medical and travel for kidney transplant

Melanie has been on the kidney transplant list for many years and while waiting was also getting dialysis treatments 3x per week. She continued to work as a gymnastics coach at Ocean City Gymnastics in Fort Walton Beach. She never complained despite being in pain most of the week due to kidney treatments. Melanie had a form of kidney disease called IGA neuropathy which she may have had her entire life leading to total kidney failure.  As many know, Melanie received a kidney Transplant on March 14th, 2022. Many of the cost will be covered by insurance but she will be left to pay the catastrophic maximum out of pocket of $6800 and the cost of staying in the Birmingham area until at least the first week of April. This is expected to be an additional $2000 . Upon leaving she will be unable to work for at least 3-4 months.
