Hi,

The end of the summer John went for his routine PET Scan for his MGUS at MD Anderson and a couple of spots showed up. He was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the right tonsil. They have not looked into the other spot yet because the tonsil took priority. Surgery was set up a few weeks ago, but the surgeon stopped once he got in. The tumor was too big and started growing tentacles. The amount of soft tissue that would have had to be cut out would have left John with a very poor quality of life and he would have had to have radiation any way. So, now we are faced with being in Houston for 7 weeks for treatment 5 days a week and of course multiple other appointments. After healing from this treatment John will have to have another surgery to correct his left carotid artery which they found to be over 92% blocked. The cancer took priority because they did not want it spreading into the lymph nodes. We will have to be in Houston well into the new year for both medical issues.

Not only is John dealing with a new cancer not related to the MGUS, but he also has had 2 strokes, CIDP (chronic from of Guillain Barre), LEMS (Lambert Eaton Syndrome), MGUS (precursor to Multiple Myeloma) all of which requires frequent checkups and treatments as well.

We will not lie. This took a lot to do this page, but being self-employed means, we have no income coming in at this time. What little we do get pretty much covers the mortgage and a car note and now we will have two households to keep up, gas, medications and special foods for him.
