Hi - my name is George. On the afternoon/evening of June 26th, Don, our Chapter VP (Hammer) and Michael, our Chapter President(Road Runner) were headed back from Florida on I-65 north bound.
Michael was in the lead with Don trailing. Cruising along at 70 mph +/-. A car swerved into the left lane knocking Don into the guard rail and causing a catastrophic crash.
Don woke to find three or more “angels” around him. One praying for him, one holding an umbrella to shade him and one holding his head still. These angels also positioned their vehicles to block traffic and shield our injured brother from any further harm. Thank God!
Michael recalls looking in the mirror and seeing Don tumbling one way, his beautiful red SG tumbling another. He stopped as quickly as possible and ran back to render aid. Sadly, the driver that struck Don did not stop!
An Alabama State Trooper was the first emergency response person on scene. His experience and training told him that Don needed immediate transport, and called for a medivac helicopter before the arrival of paramedics.
Due to the accident, many of these memories have come to Don in the days and nights after. For a few days, he didn’t remember much at all.
Don was flown to UAB in Birmingham where he had to undergo several surgeries. The multitude of injuries required stabilization and care and the staff at UAB did an excellent job.
Moving forward- Don came home less than two weeks after the accident. He has many appointments and therapies. Currently, he is traveling to/from Birmingham for some of his treatments.
As you can imagine, his bride, Belinda is exhausted. She is taking on the role of “home health care” for Don and providing round the clock care.
As a family and chapter, we first want to give thanks to the Lord above for sparing Don during this accident! God is good and He has proven it again! What was meant for bad, is turning so good! The looks on the faces of the nurses and staff as Don sits in pain, bandages everywhere asking them- “how can I pray for you?” He does his best not to miss a divine appointment!
Next, we ask that you keep Don & Belinda in your prayers. For healing, strength, financial/insurance issues and general well being.
Also, pray for Michael. To be witness such a horrible crash of a brother is something none of us want, but Michael sprang into action and provided care and attention while keeping Belinda & the family up to date with information.
Finally, lift up the Cornerstone Riders as we help our brother and his family thru this challenging time. We pray that God’s will be done and that we are all responsive to the needs of the family.
Because this was a hit & run accident, there is a possibility that insurance will NOT pay out. This GoFundMe is being set up for anyone that wants to our friend and his family. All funds will be used to help Don and his family with any medical expenses, travel expenses, and other bills/food as needed.
If you are not in a position to contribute please continue to pray for a speedy recovery for Don and for his caregiver / wife Belinda.
Thank you,
George
