Medical and Travel Expense for Art Hatfield
Donation protected
On 9/26/19 my father Art Hatfield was diagnosed with ampullary adenocarcinoma. This cancer is located in the ampulla of Vater which is an area where the pancreatic duct and common bile duct meet part of the duodenum. The good news is so far the CT does not show signs of metastatic disease (meaning it has not spread anywhere else in his body) and was caught early. He is requiring a Whipple procedure which is a very intensive and dangerous surgery requiring highly trained surgeons to complete this. All the surgeons at Stormont Vail reported that the best place to go for this is somewhere where they do these procedures throughout the week, not one that does one a month etc. The best place is the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. We are working with his insurance company to try and get the out of state service approved. I am working my hardest to get this to go through for him as this is his only option for optimal recovery from this cancer. After surgery, he will require 4-6 months of intensive chemotherapy to ensure that cancer does not return.
My mother is unable to work and obviously my father is unable to work as well during this time, therefore I am asking for friends and family who can spare a few dollars to come together and help with the medical and travel expenses.
