Over a year ago Dylan went to his doctor complaining of stomach pain. It turned out that he had testicular cancer that had spread to his lungs, liver, lymph nodes and pretty much every other place in his abdomen.
This started a year long intensive cancer battle in which he underwent two months in the hospital, three different chemotherapy regimens, two stem cell replacement treatments, and a bout of life threatening sepsis. The challenging year concluded with a cautiously optimistic outlook when the PET scans in July 2019 seemed to reveal that the tumors had shrunk in his body in response to the aggressive treatments and it looked like his fight was coming to an end.
Unfortunately, we were all in for another disappointing surprise. It turns out that while Dylan was undergoing chemo treatment, a tumor was growing in his brain undetected. Last week this tumor ruptured, causing a significant stroke. After undergoing successful brain surgery (including removal of the tumor), he is now starting the process of recovery. The stroke unfortunately affected the major motor function and speech areas of his brain which has left him with little feeling on the right side of his body and difficulty speaking.
While we are all grieving for this most recent setback, we are focused on Dylan's recovery. We know the process will be long, difficult, and unfortunately very expensive. Dylan has depleted his time off work and much of his savings fighting cancer last year. He and his parents will also have to miss additional work in order to continue his extensive rehab from the stoke. We are trying to get him the best rehabilitative care to restore as much functioning as possible, so he can lead an independent life with dignity and inspire others to keep fighting in the face of major health issues.
All amounts raised will go toward Dylan's immediate medical expenses and ongoing rehabilitation costs so he isn’t burdened with large medical debt at the end of this already taxing journey. Thank you in advance for any amount of assistance you can provide.
