Medical and Recovery costs for Ioannis Goumaras

Hi,

My name is Anna Goumaras and I am the proud niece of my dads twin brother, Ioannis “John” Goumaras.

I am hesitant to create this fundraiser for my uncle as he is too proud and embarrassed to ask for help. There is no question that he is one of the most generous and kind human beings and would not hesitate to help anyone in need. It is now our turn to help him.

Ioannis has really been suffering greatly during these last few years. He was diagnosed with severe diabetes at an early age. Sadly, his condition has deteriorated, especially in the last few years.

The diabetes has already resulted in him nearly going blind. He had surgery for this and thankfully the doctor was able to save his eyes at the cost of $10K EU.

Most recently, the prognosis worsened. He has now been given the devastating news that his leg will have to be amputated due to an infection in the bone. The only course of action now is to travel to Athens to have the surgery. There is an enormous cost associated with this, not only the initial trip from Rhodes (where he resides) to Athens, but the surgery which we were told will cost $7,000 CAD. After he heels he will likely require a wheelchair, prosthetic leg or both, as well as long term care treatment. Additionally, he will be required to travel to and from Athens for follow up appointments

My uncle will be unable to work and the disability pension is very minimal in Greece. My family will do everything possible to help but cannot sustain such exorbitant expenses.

We have exhausted all of our options to assist with his medical expenses. That is why we are seeking your help. All donations will be held by my parents, Kathy and Stavros Goumaras. After it is converted to Euros, it will be wired to Greece.
