Medical expenses due to Covid19 for Shannon

I am a 39 year old essential employee. I work for Walmart as a supervisor and have for 17 years. I loved my job.... then Covid19 struck Massachusetts hard. The entire state was shut down except for essential places of business, Walmart being one.  In March there was no mask mandate and no guide lines at work to ensure we as essential employees would be safe. By 9am our store would be at max capacity. I started to notice I was getting run down on March 29th. I decided to take a personal day on April 1st just to give my body a 3 day brake from the absolute madness at work. April 1st is the day my life changed forever... I woke up April 1st feeling like a truck hit me. I had a fever, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath, body aches, nausea, fatigue and diarrhea. My fever spiked to 104.6 but even with tylenol I couldn't get it below 101. For 5 days I suffered like this before I asked my sister to take me to the ER at Lowell General. Having to go in there alone was terrifying. On April 5th at 11:50pm, I walked myself into the ER. I was immediately put in an isolation room. I was still spiking a fever, I was grey in color. I was given a Covid19 test along with blood tests, CT scan, chest xray, ekg and eeg. At 3:30am the doctor came in with news I wasn't expecting.... She told me I was Covid19 positive but I also had bilateral viral pneumonia. I would be admitted right away because in a few days I was going to be vented. I cried this isn't what I was expecting to hear. So at 4am I had to make grueling heartbreaking calls to my sisters, my loving boyfriend and family that this may be the last time I talk to them. There is no way to explain that feeling you get when you think this could be it, I'm going to die alone.  An hour later I was put in a negative pressure isolation room in the ICU. There were cameras to watch me, the noisy machines and complete loneliness. I was put on medication along with heparin shots as doctors were seeing microscopic blood clots in Covid19 patients. The medication helped and I was only in ICU for 2 days before being moved to a different Covid19 ward. There I was put on a cocktail of medication and more heparin shots. A had a reaction to one of the meds but the wonderful nurses were quick to help me. On day 3, I was walking around my room with the nurse monitoring my stats. Hours later I was told I would be going home. I cried again. Not only was I going home but I never was vented. I can only thank my mom in heaven for watching over me. I isolated for 21 days and then I could move about. I thought I beat the virus but I couldn't have been more wrong.... For 4 weeks I did telehealth visits as I still couldn't breath right.  I was given antibiotics and inhalers but nothing was working. On my last telehealth visit I was advised to go back to the ER as she thought I still had the pneumonia. I was aggravated but I went back to the ER at Saints Memorial Hospital (a secondary campus to Lowell General). I had more tests done including a CT scan and chest xray. Again more news I wasn't expecting,  while there was just a little pneumonia left I was told I have blood clots in my right lung.... 1 6mm one in the upper part but the rest of my lung look liked it had taken a shot gun blast. There was a dozen 5mm clots. I'm in total panic mode. This is very serious. I was immediately put on Lovenox twice a day. I have been seeing my primary care provider every 2 weeks since May, in June we started looking for specialists who could help me. The 1st one we found was a hematologist.  In July I had my 1st appointment with him.  He was wonderful. He sent me for more blood tests and an echocardiogram. August 8th, I had my echo done. About a week later I get a phone call.... he informed me that I have myocarditis (inflammation of the heart) and a murmur. Neither of which I had in April or May when my heart was checked. It wasn't what I was expecting but it was just an other piece to the puzzle. Next up was finding a cardiologist.  He's is a wonderful doctor out of North Andover, he listened to everything I had to say and ordered a 24 hour heart monitor. A week later he confirmed what the hematologist had said. At this point I'm still waiting for my appointment with the pulmonologist.  September finally arrives and I have my appointment with the pulmonologist. I disheartened by the fact he has never seen a Covid19 patient but nonetheless I continue with the appointment. Its now 5 months from my initial diagnosis and I still can't breathe right. He has me walk around with the nurse for 5 minutes around the office with an O2 saturation monitor. I didn't make the 5 minutes... my O2 dropped to 79%. He informed me that I now have to wear oxygen when I'm doing anything other than sitting down or driving. I'm in shock again. He orders a lung function test. So here I am 39 and walking around with an oxygen tank.  October is here and I see my hematologist again. He strongly believes I have pulmonary fibrosis. We are all in agreement that I need to see a pulmonologist that has dealt with Covid19 patients. I now have an appointment with a pulmonologist out of Lahey Burlington who is part of a multi-hospital covid team. Once I see her she will determine if I will be sent to John Hopkins in Baltimore to see the top pulmonologist in the country working on Covid19 patients.  I was an avid hiker before. I enjoyed going to the gym but most of all staying active. Now I can't even get up a flight of stairs. I just want to be healthy  again. All through this ordeal I have been fighting with my work to pay me. In June,I was told that I needed to return to work and if I didn't while I still would have a job I would no longer be a supervisor.  I was and still am not medical cleared to return to work. I retained a lawyer to help me not only keep my job but to get paid. I finally got on unemployment all while fighting my place of employment. In 3 weeks that runs out. We are still in the process of fighting for workers comp as I 100% caught the virus there. I have paid $7000 in medical bills out of pocket and I'm running out of money to even keep a roof over my head. It's  not in my nature to ask for help but here I am. I didn't ask to get sick. All I'm asking is if you could spare something so I can keep fighting the after effect of this virus and not have to worry if I will be homeless.  Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I love you all,  Shannon
