pdate on Krystin!! Praise report! Since having a GJ tube placed she has gained 4 pounds in the last three weeks. The site is healing nicely. Today was a Dr. Appointment in Arkansas to discuss the possibility of having a gastric stimulator pacemaker placed in her stomach which is a very rare procedure and only offered by a select few places across the US. This device would help to cure her Gastroparesis by sending signals to the stomach that it isn’t getting from the brain currently, to digest her food properly. They have offered her this procedure however, insurance does not cover it and the cost is out of pocket $20,000. We appreciate your continued prayers, thoughts and support during this difficult time. Krystin is still unable to work at this time and her fiancé is doing everything in his power to keep up with bills, doctors appointments, her children, school activities, etc. all while continuing to work a full-time job and try to make ends meet. We want to thank everyone who has already donated sent prayers, or shared this go fund me from the bottom of our hearts. However, we ask for continued prayers shares of this go fund me, and donations, if you are able and choose to do so. Thank you thank you thank you and please continue to pray pray pray.
Hello, my name is Karen and I am Krystin's mother. On April 30th 2018 at the age of 26 my daughter's life was forever changed. She was an RN working at a local hospital in the Nuero ICU when a patient assaulted her and she suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury also known as a TBI. She spent weeks and months in rehab to help her relearn how to do the things we take for granted such as walking, talking, using the bathroom and many more tasks. Progress has been made on her activities of daily living however other complications continue to arise as her brain doesn't always talk to her body like it should.
She tried to go back to work after about a year but has been unable to maintain steady employment as she can't work the hours required and has developed additional medical issues that keep her from safely performing her duties. The latest need is to have surgery that works like a pacemaker for her stomach as she can't hold much of anything down as the brain isn't telling her stomach how to function. This procedure isn't covered by her insurance. She is going in for a feeding tube to be placed in her stomach on May 11th in hopes of getting nutrition to be able to have strength for her therapy as she has lost over 50 pounds in the last year since the latest development arose. She has found a surgeon in Conway Ar that specialized in the treatment she needs.
She worked so hard to become an RN and was enrolling in school again at the time of the accident to become a CRNA to give her family which includes 2 children a better and enjoyable life. Now, due to the situation and the laws she is feeling defeated, afraid and left behind. She is applying for disability but that could take months and in the meantime has to juggle how to take care of herself and her children both emotionally and finacially.
Thank you for taking the time to read a portion of her story and if you feel as though you are in a position to offer some financial help to get the surgery needed and help pay the expenses to get there it would be so very much appreciated.
One person can't do it all alone but together much can be accomplished!
