I wanted to start by saying this is definitely not something that any child would ever expect to prepare, but here my 2 brothers and I are. This is a series of unfortunate medical issues our dad is having to endure.

Our dad had back surgery 2 years ago and unfortunately, he had an accident and fell the end of September. He has been in nothing but severe pain since, not to mention everything else that we all are now facing. So, this request is about survival and unconditional love and support.

Currently our dad has to go through multiple MRIs/CT scans/X-rays just to try and find out why he is in so much pain and has to spend at least 20 hours of each day lying in bed because he cannot walk without the pain. We have gone to multiple doctors, multiple tests, multiple injections and different pain medication, all for nothing to work. We were told that a new specialist that works with my dad’s type of injury can help but he will have to undergo ANOTHER surgery to fuse his Sacroiliac Joints in hopes this will help with the pain and he will be able to walk and not be in pain. We were also given the news that because of the injury he has edema on the L4 and L5 vertebrae and this will also require immediate attention of not immediate surgery to avoid infection. These are some of issues that our dad is currently facing.

Unfortunately, on our way to see another specialist we received unexpected news regarding our dad’s liver. While being under the care of his liver doctor for cirrhosis, he is evaluated every six months. It has been steady until a few weeks ago. The doctor called and found a mass on his liver and needed to confirm the mass with the team at UCHealth. On January 29, 2024 we would not have expected to ever receive the news that would change everyone’s life. The mass is cancer!

Our dad’s doctor is recommending that he receive a live donor due to timing and benefits. At this time our brother Matthew has the only blood type that matches our dad. He has graciously without hesitation, started the process to be considered as a live donor. If he is a match, he will be donating a portion of his liver to our dad.

This is all great news! But no blessing comes without a little struggle. Our dad is retired and is on a fixed income although the family gathering up the funds for the bulk of his medical costs, we are looking for a little extra help.

All of this to say, life is going to be tough for them in the months to come. This burden does not fall on you, it is ours to bare. But if you would like to help, they would be extremely grateful for your generosity and love.

We will also be organizing a benefit to help with all of the medical and hospital costs to come.
