In honor of my grandmother, Huong Thi Tran, I want to be able to raise money in order to lay her to rest. My grandmother is the foundation of our family and a wonderful caretaker of my young sister. She is the individual who would go far and beyond to make sure everyone is fed. She kept the family unit going by cooking for my mother who pays the bills to keep the lights on every month. She was a devout believer in God, and the only things she wanted in the world was for her daughter and two grandchildren to be healthy everyday. She always loved to cook and try new recipes, talking with relatives back in Vietnam, and reads the Bible on a daily basis. I used to remember her in her free time always exercising and returning to pray afterwards as she wanted to live a long life with her family in devotion to God.

Unfortunately, on the evening of July 16, 2021 she was involved in a pedestrian crash as a truck came out of a neighborhood which failed to yield to pedestrians crossing. The truck knocked her into the sidewalk and she sustained a severe head injury. She was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio where she passed away at 2:10 a.m on the 17 of July with severe bleeding to her brainstem. Those final moments were the hardest for me to watch as for the first time in my life, I witnessed my mother who had toiled away for 20 years cry and plead for my grandmother to wake up.

My grandmother was beloved in our community. She was the one who helped others who couldn't afford to have their children in daycare while both parents worked. She was the one that kept my family moving. I still can not get used to not seeing her every time I leave the house and she's not there to ask me where I am going.

As of right now, my family's daily life has been thrown off course and I do not even know if we can afford a funeral and the medical costs. I am just a university student and work part time, but I have to worry about our finances as my mother is our own income source, my younger sister is only 14 and is about to enter highschool.

I come here to ask for the generosity of strangers to help my family in a difficult circumstance to help with the funeral and the medical costs. Anything beyond the goal would only serve to assist my mother with the loss of income and my younger sister's college fund. Thank you and God bless you.
