Dennis has always been a community oriented person. Growing up in Keansburg, New Jersey, a small coastal town you were raised that way. He coached t-ball, ran the clock for KYA youth basketball and announced Pop Warner Youth football games. Along with his community involvement Dennis has demonstrated unconditional love and support for my sister and nephews. In fact, to be honest if I had to draw up a perfect brother in law I couldn't have because God placed him in Patti's life to be her partner, father to their children, and loving member of our family.
The family was crusing along the past Christmas holiday season when Dennis started not feeling well, experiencing tremendous pain. After visiting the ER it was discovered that Dennis has Stage 4 Acute TCell Lymphoma Leukemia. A blood cancer that is diagnosed in children and teens. This is a rare occurrence to say the least. He immediately began intensive, in hospital, chemotherapy, has two ports installed, including one in his head. He need constant monitoring for his blood levels, transfusions, etc. Dennis goes to a doctor's appointment and he may be there all day.
The last couple months have taken an immense toll on my family, physically and financially. The medical bills are mounting, the Stem Cell Transplant that is recommended to put this cancer into remission will likely cost $300,000 plus. Pat cannot work in order to take Dennis to his appointments, help take care of him at home, and she wants to spend this time with the love of her life. Her FMLA is running out and they are financially strained to meet life expenses let alone the additional expenses associated with this battle.
They can use all the help they can get. One of my favorite quotes is
“Start by doing what's necessary, then do what's possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.” —St. Francis of Assisi
Let's do the impossible together!
