MedGlobal is an international medical nonprofit organization that was founded in August of 2017. Our Board of Directors consists of humanitarians with a wealth of experience working in underserved areas and they are dedicated towards a world without healthcare disparities. More then half of our board members are accomplished female physicians and nurses who are leaders in their field. The vision of MedGlobal is to provide free and sustainable healthcare to refugees and to people in disaster-stricken areas around this world. Our team is composed of medical and public health volunteers with diverse backgrounds who come from all around this world. Our volunteers’ work alongside with global and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to support the provision of medical care; in addition we empower our local partners by helping them strengthen their infrastructure by providing them with funds to build clinics and educating their staff on how to integrate evidence-based medical care into humanitarian practices. We work with local stakeholders and U.S. based universities in conducting needs assessments that enable us to be more effective and efficient with the care we provide and ensure that we are, in fact, serving the community’s needs.

The Rohingya are a predominantly Muslim ethnic minority from the Rakhine State in Myanmar (Burma). They make up ~ 2% of the country's population. They have been systematically stripped off of their citizenship and basic human rights since 1977 when Myanmar launched the "Naga Min" operation. Racially motivated violence against the Rohingya had started even before this time. Since the 1977 Myanmar military action, over a million Rohingya have fled to neighboring countries in Asia, with a vast majority of them seeking shelter in an area known as Cox's Bazaar - a district in Bangladesh. On August 25, 2017 the Rohingya Arsa militants attacked several police posts in Rakhine state. In response, the Myanmar military launched what it called a "clearance operation," which was essentially a pseudonym for ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya. Since August of 2017, over 500,000 Rohingya women, children, and men have fled the Rakhine State region; 58% of these refugees have been children and close to 60% of the adult refugees have been women. Most Rohingya refugees arrived in Bangladesh with only the clothes on their backs. Now, close to 800,000 refugees have set up camps in difficult terrains with little access to safe drinking water, food, shelter, or healthcare. The need for aid with this vastly growing humanitarian crisis has been overwhelming.

Since August of 2017, our MedGlobal organization, under the leadership of Dr. Hena Ibrahim, has been sending weekly teams of physicians, nurses, translators, and public health workers to conduct ongoing needs assessment in addition to providing free and sustainable medical care for the Rohingya refugees and underserved citizens of Bangladesh. The Physician Women For Democratic Principles (PWDP) has been generous in supporting and advocating for our cause. We immensely appreciate your help and support in our endeavors. The entire sum of your donated money will go towards purchasing medical equipment for our clinics and medications to treat our patient population in Bangladesh.
