Hi, my name is Fiona and I'm fund-raising for a biodiversity project in Sri Lanka, The Wild Garden.
With your support we will restore a nature depleted site into a 3 acre biodiverse nature reserve, abundant in habitat and fodder and a haven for birds, bees, butterflies and small mammals.
Firstly the ground will be cleared of the dense choking undergrowth of non-native and invasive species, then we'll plant as many native species of trees, shrubs and flowers as we know will tolerate the salty climate on the South Coast of the beautiful country.
Once the plants are established we will identify which plants, trees and shrubs thrive in these conditions. Then we will start to propagate plants in our nursery to give away to our neighbours, local residents and other villas all along the south coast.
The Wild Garden will also be home to a Sea Turtle Hatchery; a protected place where we can replicate natural nesting conditions and receive up to 10,000 eggs per year for safe incubation. Once the eggs have hatched we will ensure they safely reach the ocean with minimal human intervention.
We will work to create an educational programme and teach schools, universities, our on-line followers and our Meda Gedara guests about the vital importance of biodiversity and marine conservation and how we can all play a part in protecting vital species of flora and fauna before they get wiped out forever.
Please help support and fund this project so we can keep working towards our ultimate aim of creating biodiverse corridors all along the South Coast of Sri Lanka.
