Med Coverage for Mental Health Med for Mom, Darby
Our mother, Darby, was diagnosed with Depression and Bipolar I Disorder 30 years ago. She was a single mother of three and while raising us, always worked several jobs to make ends meet. Her medications were never balanced properly and she faced a real low for many years. She was unable to work and closed herself off to friends and family.
Finally, a medication called Latuda (lurasidone) was added to her regimen and it changed everything. She felt balanced and found purpose again. After being on this medication for a couple of years now, she is able to work again as a caregiver. She gives to others every day of work and we are hoping now she can receive help.
The unfortunate reality is that even with insurance Latuda is approximately $600 each month for her. This far exceeds her monthly budget while covering humble living expenses and other medications. Latuda is approximately $54 per tablet or $1,620 for a 30 day supply. This is a medication our mom desperately needs to be happy and healthy. Our plan is to provide one year of coverage to help prevent over working herself and drowning in debt just to live a normal life. We cannot stress enough how important it is that our mom receives help to be able to afford this medication.
We have tried coupons from various discount sites, reached out to the manufacturer and she has tried multiple other medications as substitutes. Latuda is not yet available in generic form. As most of us know, sometimes medication is critical to balancing the chemistry in our brains. American insurance and pharmaceutical companies do not always make it possible to afford what is best for someone.
