Meatball landed in rescue in 2022; his original owners purchased him from a “reputable breeder” that didn’t want to take him back when they were unable to care for his medical needs, so he was surrendered to the Humane Society. From there he was transferred to Bullies in Need and entered foster care.

He already had clear signs of allergies when he was in his first foster home where he went through many rounds of meds to treat skin and ear infections. Months later I took over his foster care and tried to tackle his very itchy and angry skin! Days into fostering him, despite the medical mess he is, we both knew he was home.

Unfortunately - due to him already having medical issues prior to adoption, pet insurance was not an option. Nothing that could be linked to possible allergies, no ear or skin issues, would be covered. With that being said, Meatball has made friends with many veterinary professionals and specialists. Aside from our regular clinic, he has had numerous visits to dermatology, internal medicine and emergency rooms.

Despite doing everything humanly possible: two different dermatologist, countless vet visits, special diets, regular ear cleaning, many different types allergy medications and injections, steroids, ear ointment’s/antibiotics and tens of thousands of dollars, the ear infections persist.

Sadly the last few weeks have been a roller coaster as Meatball ended up in the emergency vet presenting with neurological symptoms and a fever - fast forward to 3 trips to the emerg and a CT scan later it was clear that my sweet Meaty is far passed conventional treatment methods and requires a Total Ear Canal Ablation and Bulla Osteotomy of his left ear.

On top of the $5,000 I’ve spent already just in the last couple weeks - the surgery is estimated to be around $8,000-10,000!

Meatball is my entire world and I will do anything for him - including asking for help as much as I hate doing so. We are forever grateful for whatever amount you’re able to contribute!
