I'm a former student of the school and a current teacher there.
As I interact with the campus, it seems like it needs a full-sized metal mascot.
I hope you would agree.
I have already sculpted the full-bodied model at 1/12 scale.
It will be cast in aluminum and given a bronze patina.
I need $20,000 to cover the cost of site work and base construction, foundry work including resizing, mold making, casting, finishing, delivery, and installation.
The cost is only guaranteed by the foundry for 12 months, so we can't let this drag out. As soon as half the funds have been donated and delivered to the foundry, they will begin the process. They can have the sculpture ready for delivery in 3-5 months.
This project is not about me as an artist (although I did carve my name into his hind leg) it's about giving back to the school in appreciation for all it has given me and many others in our community and around the nation.
The students that watched me sculpt the model are super excited about the idea of turning a small clay model into a large metal work of art. They can't wait to see the installation. It would mean a lot to them and to myself if we could see this happen.
If the goal of $20,000 is surpassed, the additional money will be donated to the Alamosa High School Art Club.
Please be generous.
(footnote) The foundry cost includes a desk model as well, it will be aluminum but it may or may not have the patina on it.
I will put donor names into a hat, and send the desk model to a name randomly drawn from it.
