As a born and raised Colombian I feel for the youth of Colombia. I find myself hurt as all Colombians are being violated of their human rights. It is disgusting what the police and army are doing to the citizens of Colombia for standing up for themselves and the communities they live in! The police are attacking and killing civilians that are protesting against a disastrous, mediocre, and disconnected government.
On April 28th thousands of citizens went out to the streets to protest against the new tax reform. Aimed to increases taxes on low and middle income citizens by taxing everyday necessities, basic foods and public services such as water and phone bills. The tax reform would have drastically affected all middle to lower class, and more than half of the Colombian population as a whole. These are those already struggling financially due to the pandemic.
Finally after 5 days of protests the new tax reform has been withdrawn. This would have widened the gap between the rich and poor of Colombia, but has left much of Colombia still being governed by martial law. Food trucks and deliveries have been halted in many communities and these are the ones that need our help most. I am looking to help by collecting food banks in a few major cities where I have strong dependable contacts which would help distribute necessities (food, medicine,water..) through the church to those in need.
I dream of a free Colombia! Free of poverty , free of oppression, free of thought, free to make enterprise, to dream , to study, and to give the family what they deserve. ITS NOT WITH GUNS..
This GoFundMe will not help with the changes that Colombia needs to make on its own but it will help the struggling families that could really use our help. No one should be without food, water and medicine. Me and my family in Colombia are doing everything we can personally and this is my first attempt at going outside my immediate circle. I am hoping this works!
Nothing is too small every little bit it greatly appreciated!
