Hello, my name is Pauline and I'm raising funds for my daughter Meagan. Meagan is 23 years old and having spina bifida and hydrocephalus as well as being paralyzed from her ribs to her feet didn't stop her from moving out last year to learn how to be more independent!
Meagan has been on a wait list for a government-funded group home setting, but that list is still about 5 years long. (It was 10 years long when we applied in 2021). We don't know if the first group home to have a spot will be suitable for her as she is very sociable and loves to connect with others, nor if it will be in an area close to Meagan's church, family and friends.
Last year, Meagan moved into a lovely studio room at a nearby retirement home. The same one where her Nana lives. She has required someone else to shop, cook, clean and do laundry for her among other things, and being at the retirment home has allowed her to have these necessities. She herself has been able to train several Personal Support Workers who help her with some of her daily living activities such as showering etc. Meagan has also benefited from all the activities that the residence provides. She especially enjoys singing in the choir, praying with residents, doing arts and crafts, and hanging out with Amanda, the activity director!
The monthly room and board fee for Meagan is over $3,000. Last year, we found an association to help supplement what our family has provided for her monthly needs, but that funding has come to an end.
We will continue to look for other funding options, but in the meantime need some financial assistance.
Would you consider helping Meagan out?
God bless you!
With thanks and gratititude,
Pauline
