Soooo.... I've news!!
At the end of August, THIS YEAR, I have been given the mad opportunity to swim the North Channel!!! Donaghadee, Northern Ireland to Portpatrick, Scotland.... a distance of 34.5km in a straight line, but no one does a straight line, so it'll be more than that...
I don't quite believe it myself yet, but it's happening!
The North Channel is considered, by most, the toughest of the Ocean Seven swims in that it is very cold, is plagued by the notorious lions' main jellyfish and involves many competing tides and currents all the way across right up until the final few metres. So, ya know, thought I'd make it my first! I am an experienced open water swimmer, but this will be, by far, my biggest challenge!
If successful, I will be the youngest swimmer ever to complete this crossing, , and will be swimming it in just my swim suit (no wetsuit) one hat and goggles with my support boat and crew... couldn't be in better hands...
The current world record for being the youngest female is 20 years and 253 days, the youngest male is 19 years and 8 days.
I will be 17 years and around 147 days.
This is seriously an absolutely bonkers challenge that I'm setting myself, but one that I want so, so much and feel I'm ready for. I'm training hard and supported by so many!
Excited!!! (And nervous!) And excited!!!
I am so lucky to be surrounded by friends and family who are helping me with fundraising to make this dream of mine a reality as the cost of this challenge, runs into the thousands. Any donations, so gratefully received.
