Help me put a down payment on a vehicle

Hi everyone,

Im not one to ask for help like this because I understand the financial difficulties everyone is struggling with today. But at this point I am in desperate need of support. On September 2nd, 2023 at 3am I was woken up by police officers at my door stating that a person had hit my car and they were caught. My first reaction was “can I drive to work in the morning?” The officers stated that my car was not able to drive and most likely a total loss. The driver of the car who had hit my parked vehicle while I was asleep was under the influence of drugs causing him to fall asleep multiple times at the wheel, causing him to hit my car then a tree then fleeing the scene. The car he was driving had been stolen from a college student. So the owner of the car is not responsible for the damages of my car. Due to the man who stole the car and driving under the influence not having a license either, he does not have insurance. So all the fees are being covered by my insurance meaning my insurance is going to go up. I am currently in the middle of applying to ask for restitution from the driver but he most likely does not have money and that will take two months just to be looked into. I am asking for help because I am in a sticky situation I have no idea how to get out of. I work 45 minutes away from Syracuse so I need a car for transportation and my insurance is no longer able to pay for my rental due to the amount being offered to my loan company for my car being a total loss. Meanwhile after my loan company receives the money I could be using for a downpayment for a vehicle, I will still have a remainder balance on my auto loan. So I will be paying for a car that I cannot drive because I was not offered gap insurance. The money I raise will be strictly used for a downpayment for a car or used to help pay for a rental until I can afford a car. I’m in over my head with all of this and could use any support that is offered.
