Help me mobilize outside safely and take care of my dog

Hello, my name is Nancy and have created this Go Fund Me Account with the assistance of my Social Worker to request help from the community to help me purchase a mobility scooter and additional medical equipment for my manual wheelchair.

I worked at Grace Hospital for 20 years as a communications clerk, played soccer regularly and became a personal trainer on the side as I had a fierce passion for fitness and helping others reach their fitness goals.

Unfortunately, I had to stop everything as I developed severe scoliosis to my spine requiring multiple intensive surgeries, one being over 10 hours. I also required 10 surgeries on my hip, as well as subsequent surgeries to my elbow, wrist, knee and foot.

This year I was informed by my doctor that I will never walk again so I am now a full-time wheelchair user, which has been very difficult to come to terms with as I was always so active. I have also been informed that I will likely require additional surgery to my elbow.

It has been extremely difficult to maneuver on the sidewalks in my manual wheelchair while taking my dog for a walk, which has resulted in my wheelchair tipping over 10 times this year. Three of those times have occurred since the snow fall, which has caused me to sustain additional injuries. As I live in an apartment, the only way my dog can relieve herself is by going for walks so this is the only option I have.

It has been recommended that I get a power mobility scooter for outdoors and to purchase additional equipment for my wheelchair, but I cannot afford any of this as financially I am struggling quite a lot. After paying my bills, rent, food and medications I never have anything left over to save.

Over the past 9 months allied health professionals involved in my care have been working hard trying to obtain funding to purchase a mobility scooter but have been unsuccessful in getting approval for same, which is why I have created this go fund me account as a last resort.

Getting this money would make a significant positive impact on my life and will allow me to continue living safely in the community and take care of my dog.
