Hi guys.
As many of you would know, since 2018 I have been helping Coach the Mens South African International Rugby League team (the Rhinos) in their efforts to advance their standings as a Rugby League Nation and hopefully make a run at a World Cup. Well this year (after years of patience and ongoing effort), the Rhinos have their first huge chance to do just that, playing an International Test against the Cook Islands in Sydney, early November.
This will be my 7th year being involved with this amazing team, and each time it has been self funded. Both players and staff always pay their own ways in this battle to raise the game in a country which is run by Rugby Union. Seldom does the team get a lot of funding, and even rarer do staff get subsidised. We proudly do it all on our own, save money, miss work and put in wherever we can, as we believe that this amazing group of young players have something big to offer the game. What they have sacrificed and fought for the past 10+ years off their own backs is nothing short of inspiring. That's why I've continued to give wherever I possibly can, even though I don't have a drop of South African blood in me. I believe in this team and think they can do it.
For this next tour, I'm looking for help covering accommodation, meals, and uniform costs for the 10 days im away. I've already covered my flights but am hoping my friends and family can help with the remainder.
Anything is welcome. $5, $20, $50, $100. ANYTHING.
Whatever you give will go a long way to helping me get to Sydney for this huge opportunity for the Rhinos.
If we win.... we are on our way to the next Rugby league World Cup. Something no one would ever have imagined was possible for South Africa 10 years ago. But now after years of effort, redoubled, grit and sacrifice they have the chance; earnt only through playing and beating teams no one thought they could.
I've never asked before now for help, but increasingly it's becoming harder to find the money to keep helping and this time things are tougher than normal.
If you could help me, help this team, I would be incredibly grateful. Again, anything would be welcome.
Thanks everyone.
Ike
