Something pretty special just happened! I was selected for the NSW State Hockey Team!
At 47 years old (and turning 48 Saturday 14th March!), I’ve just been nominated to represent New South Wales at the National Championships.
To be honest… I’m still a bit... stunned? If that's the right word? Some of these women in the team play for Australia! What an honour to be selected, I am in awe!
Sport has always been part of my life. I think I got that gene from dad (who passed away last year. I am sure he would be proud of this one) I play because I love the game, the community, the challenge, the training and fitness, including the mental fitness required and the feeling of running onto the field with a team of incredible women who refuse to believe age should slow us down.
But representing NSW at Nationals was never something I expected to happen at this stage of life.
And yet… here we are.
This opportunity means the world to me. It’s proof that you’re never too old to chase something exciting, push yourself, and keep showing up.
However, competing at this level comes with some significant costs including time off work and home and business
To take part in the championships I need to cover:
• Team registration and player fees
• Insurance and association costs
• Flights and accommodation
• Team uniform and equipment
• Umpire and tournament fees
• Physio and recovery support
• Travel and competition expenses
The total comes to around $3,500
So I’m swallowing my pride a little and asking for help.
If you feel inspired to support someone chasing a big sporting goal later in life, any contribution would mean so much.
Whether it’s $5, $20, $ 2 million ( just kidding) or simply sharing this page, every bit helps me get to Nationals and represent NSW with everything I’ve got. Thank you for your support!
