Dear friends,
As my birthday approaches, I find myself reflecting on the journey that has brought me here. Ten years ago, I made the difficult decision to leave my family and everything familiar behind to pursue a life in the arts in the USA. It was a leap of faith that led me to New York in 2014, where I graduated from the conservatory and began working in the arts industry.
However, my path took an unexpected turn when a work-related injury forced me to return to Argentina for six months to seek treatment. The high cost of healthcare and uncertainty about my future in the arts led me into a deep depression. It was during this challenging time that my mentor, Juan Barello, became my guiding light, helping me recover and find my way back to New York in 2017, this time as a producer and director.
I continued to overcome obstacles and was instrumental in creating an international theatre project called "Odd Man Out," which is set to open Off-Broadway this year. But just as I was gaining momentum, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and the arts industry came to a standstill. With finances dwindling and my mental health suffering, I found myself at a breaking point, questioning my decisions.. "You are now in a town you don't anybody, you have $100 in your bank account, the big projects that you risked everything are not working, you can go home but if you do, you sacrifice everything you've done in 8 years"... and many other feelings that made me feel like a failure up to the point that I reach suicidal thoughts.
It was my wife, Evvy, who stood by me during my darkest moments, giving me the strength to start over once again.
I began working tirelessly. My sister-in-law gave me a bike that wasn't even for my heights, yet I took it anyway and started biking to multiple jobs just to make ends meet. Despite the challenges, I managed to rebuild my life, I bought a bike for my heights, then bought a car and now I'm leasing a new one after the old one broke down.
One of my greatest regrets is not being able to say goodbye to my Grandma before she passed away. Now, with only one living grandmother, my Abuela, who is a cancer survivor, I am more determined than ever to visit her in Argentina. However, I am currently unable to travel due to the Green Card application process.
This is why I am reaching out to you today. I am running a fundraising campaign to save money for the moment when I can finally purchase tickets for me and my wife to visit my family in Argentina.
The round trip cost per person is around $1400 before taxes so I established a goal at $3500 just in case.
I am not a materialistic person; my greatest joy comes from being with my family, friends and with the people that I help.
Success and financial freedom will come as a result of being at peace and authentic.
Your small donation can help me take a step closer to this goal. Every contribution, no matter how small, will bring me one step closer to hugging my Abuela and my family and saying to them how much I love them and miss them eye to eye instead of doing it by a screen.
Thank you for considering supporting me on this journey.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Malcolm
