Help Lizz get to 2024 World Duathlon Championships

Donation protected
Hi,
I’m Lizz and I have recently qualified for the 2024 Worlds Sprint Distance Duathlon Championships to represent GBR for my age-group in Townsville, Australia.

Although I’m kindly supported by my sporting suppliers, there is no financial assistance from British Athletics to help me represent Team GB in this event, it all has to be self-funded. I’m super grateful to my family and friends for supporting my dream of competing on the international stage at the Worlds, a big step up from when I competed in Glasgow for the Europeans. As a working mum of 3, I simply couldn’t have done it without them.

While I’ve been using my savings, the costs remain high, needing to fund flights, accommodation, international race fees & insurance, GB team kit, equipment and sports nutrition. The donations so far have encouraged me to take the risk and go for it, and so I’m asking for people kindly to continue to help me raise the funds, whatever the amount, and be part of my journey.

If you know of any companies or organisations who would be interested in sponsoring me, I would welcome introductions.

Thanks for reading, if you’d like to learn more about my story so far, then please read on. My training and race journey can also be followed on my instagram page lizzjayne82 where I will bring you updates.
 Many thanks,

 Lizz ☺️xx

It all started back in 2006. I was so overweight and unhealthy. I had no fitness whatsoever and It took me 2 years of grit and determination to lose 5.5 stone to get me to a level of fitness where I could manage participating in gym classes which I was doing 2-3 times a week.

In 2008 i was introduced to Triathlon by a group of friends and did my first super-sprint event in 2009, and from this I got the passion in this sport. I joined a local Tri group and raced lots of events. I got fitter and stronger and started ranking in the top 3 so after some encouragement from the club coach, we decided to set a goal for me to try qualify for Team GB and represent my age-group in Triathlon.

In 2017 I trained hard and raced the qualifier for the 2018 European Sprint Triathlon Championships in Glasgow, and qualified. All my hard work paid off. My next goal i wanted to race for Team GB at the World Championships. This was the level I wanted to race at In 2019, however I fell pregnant but sadly I lost our little boy at 18 weeks. This was heartbreaking and such a tough time for me.

In 2020 Covid hit and all races were cancelled and all my training had to be done from home. This is what inspired me to compete in Duathlons and continue with structured training plans because I could easily train for this during lockdown.

At my first opportunity after lockdown, I booked onto the 2022 Worlds Duathlon qualifier for Romania, and qualified. The self-satisfaction of achieving this a month after lockdown was incredible!! All the hours of training I put in at home was worthwhile. Sadly I had to withdraw my place as I simply didn’t have the money to go when it came to it.

Earlier this year i entered the Clumber Park 2024 Duathlon qualifier for the Worlds Duathlon Championships. I Qualified in 3rd place securing me a place on the GB team. Words can’t express how I’m feeling right now, I'm absolutely over the moon to of qualified and have this opportunity again.

Juggling my training with 3 small children hasn’t stopped me achieving my goals; even if it means getting up at 4:30am to train before going to work. At times I even train with my children around at home or with them on their bikes whilst I run with my littlest in the running-buggy. The things you must do as a mum who believes anything is possible if you put your mind to it. No excuses.

This time I don’t want to give this amazing opportunity to race for team gb up at the level I’ve worked so hard for.

Thank you for taking time to read my campaign ❤️
