My name is Dallas Bragg and I am an addict. In 2016 at the age of 39, I tried illegal drugs for the first time. Newly out as a gay man, I found myself in the perfect position to become severely addicted to crystal meth. I was lonely, shameful, and desperate for attention and acceptance. The world of crystal meth temporarily gave me exactly what I thought I needed. In a little more than two years, my car was repossessed, we were evicted from our home, I lost my job, and was arrested four times with felony charges.
In the spring of 2018 after being picked up from jail by my kids, I made a commitment to them that I would no longer chose the drug over them or myself. From that point forward we built back what we had, only much better, one day at a time. Today, I am sober from meth and have established a stable life for me and my family.
I now know why all of that happened and it was to prepare me to give back and pull up thousands of other from the grips of addiction and help them transition into the life of their dreams. I want to help families re-establish connection and gay men realize their worth. I’ve been accepted into a coaching program that is going to help me achieve these dreams but I haven’t rebuilt my credit score enough to borrow the cost of the program. So, I’ve decided to ask for help.
