Our 30 year old son, Matt DeLeo, was diagnosed at a young age with a genetic kidney disease known as Alports Syndrome. Because there exists no treatment or cure for Alports Syndrome, Matt has long known that one day he would need a kidney transplant. That time has arrived and he has recently been placed on the transplant list by his transplant team at Emory Medical Center in Atlanta, GA.
With the encouragement of our friends we have decided to create this GoFundMe page to remove the financial burdens that will be incurred in this journey. While his medical insurance will cover much of the transplant, there are additional costs, loss of wages, ongoing medication, treatments and unforseen expenditures. We hope to offset them through the use of these funds. Removing the fianancial worries will allow Matt and his new bride, Jessica, to focus their energies on a successful transplant.
Matt's transplant team has advised him to actively pursue a living kidney donor. The wait time for donation from a deceased donor is several years and a transplanted kidney from a living donor generally lasts twice, sometimes three times as long. If you would consider exploring this possiblility go to:
http://www.emoryhealthcare.org/transplant-kidney/living-donor/index.html
or call the Emory Hospital Transplant Center at: 1-855-366-7989
We appreciate your gracious gifts and consideration. Please keep Matt and Jess in your thoughts and prayers.
