Help Karina’s Recovery

On behalf of my dear sister in law, Karina Mendez, we are starting a “GoFundMe” page to help support her recovery. Karina was admitted to the emergency room on March 7 with a severe pain in her stomach. The doctors found that her small intestine had twisted twice and immediately transferred her to the surgery room. After one month in ICU and numerous surgeries, Karina was left with only 3 feet of small intestine. Our entire family is suffering but we are all grateful that she’s still alive.

Today Karina is the Progressive Care unit and in a few weeks will be transferred to a Rehabilitation facility. Eventually she will need a small intestine transplant to live a normal life again.

Those who know Karina can attest that she has a kind heart, a contagious laughter, and a caring mother of four. She is mentally strong and we know she will fight to recover and begin a “new normal” life again. Although the road to physical and emotional recovery will be long and difficult, Karina is blessed with a loving family, friends, and amazing medical care.
