Fight for Brandon

In 2006 at the age of 6, Brandon was diagnosed with a presumed Pilocytic Astroctyoma which is a benign, slow growing tumor of the brain generally in the form of a cyst. Due to the position of the tumor, a biopsy could not be performed. Treatment began immediately, with the first round seeing Brandon to become quite ill and have a reaction, so another treatment was sourced which involved an oral treatment every 3 weeks over a 12 month period. This oral treatment halted the growth, and for just over 3 years everything appeared to be okay.

After 3 years, the tumor began to grow again. New treatments began which stopped the growth for another 12 months, but after those 12 months it began to grow again.

In 2013 Brandon went for his first operation for a biopsy and surgically debulking to remove as much of the tumor as possible. After the biopsy was completed, Brandon commenced a 6 week round of radiotherapy. After the 6 weeks was completed, we were told that the radiotherapy hadn’t worked.

In 2015 Brandon commenced Chemotherapy, which did not work.

In 2017, the tumor was removed and everything was believed to be okay.

In December 2018, following a routine scan, a new tumor was found.

In March 2019 at the age of 19 years old, Brandon underwent a 7.5 hour operation to have the tumor removed; the surgeons were able to remove most of the tumor however there is a portion they were not able to access and advised Brandon is to have further radiation and chemotherapy.

This has left Brandon with a grade 4 GBN which means Glioblastoma Multi Forme.

Brandon’s oncologist Jordon is searching the world for potential treatment options but Brandon has a hell of a fight ahead of him and for a kid that has had to fight his whole life, it’s just another day to him. His strength and courage is just amazing to bear witness to.

We are seeking help to cover medical expenses, and ease the burden for the family.

His mother Melissa has had to cease work to be available to go to Melbourne where Brandon will have to stay for significant lengths of time for treatment. His Dad Matthew has to remain in Wangaratta working to support the family and care for their other two children.

This is a hard time that no family should have to experience. Any help is appreciated ❤️
