Rick's Healing Journey

Hello, my name is Camryn. My family's life turned upside-down on June 5, 2022. While my Uncle Rick was taking his usual route home on his beloved Harley, a woman driving in a car coming the opposite direction blatantly and cold-heartedly hit him, sending him through the intersection and into a pole. She then proceeded to drive off leaving him in the road. By the grace of God, other civilians were around to call 911 and watch over him until the paramedics got there. Thankfully, police were able to capture her not long after, but the damage she has left behind is immeasurable.

Rick was taken to Cleveland Metro Hospital Emergency Room where they discovered he had multiple bruises and lacerations, a ruptured bladder, shattered pelvic cartilage, dislocated hip, and a completely mangled left leg. After a few hours in the emergency department, the doctors informed us he would need his left leg amputated. The following day he was in the OR for 8 hours for the amputation of his lower left leg, and the reconstruction of his entire left side from the hip down to his knee. Doctors estimate he will be in the hospital for several weeks and will require multiple additional surgeries, as well as extensive rehab. We will have to reconfigure his whole life, including accommodating his house to be functional and safe enough for him to return home. He has two lovely cats, Trigger and Oreo, that miss him dearly and can't wait for him to come home. He will need a prosthetic at some point down the road (he promised he would walk me down the aisle at my wedding), and physical therapy for the rest of his life.

This event has been unimaginable and a hard hit for all of us, especially my Uncle, who did not in the slightest deserve or expect this. If you know Rick, you know he is too good for this world. He has only ever blessed the lives of those he's come across. He always does everything in his power to provide for his family. It is unclear when or if he will be able to work again. We are trying our best to reassure him that we can take care of everything ourselves, but we truly and honestly need some help from our friends, family, loved ones, and anyone who wishes to ease his journey. We know God will provide, but anything helps. Thank you for your time.
